WHDZ to build new municipal level P3 laboratory

Construction on the Comprehensive Laboratory Building of Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently underway in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, according to local media reports.

The project includes one biosafety level 3 laboratory (P3), P2 laboratory and experimental supporting room, one toxicology laboratory, animal room and supporting experimental room, one emergency training drill center, as well as an underground equipment room and parking garage.

The building area will be around 52,000 square meters.

The project is expected to be completed in December 2022. The supporting laboratory is expected to carry out up to 100,000 nucleic acid tests per day, while the emergency training drill center will be able to provide professional training on epidemiological investigation.

In addition, the CDC will be able to carry out early monitoring and early warning of public health emergencies, emergency command and dispatch, and emergency material guarantee and dispatch, and will form a public health safety guarantee system that serves Wuhan and all of Central China.
