Residents in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, can now receive a COVID-19 vaccination free of charge at 15 designated health service centers, according to local media reports.

Permanent residents in Wuhan city aged between 18 and 59 who are willing to be vaccinated can go to the designated clinic site in the jurisdiction where they live, or make an appointment for vaccination by telephone.

Among the 15 sites, one of them - Bihu Community Health Service Station - is located in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone.

"It is very necessary for eligible residents to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible," said Yang Xiaobing from the Wuhan Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to Yang, almost nobody has immunity against COVID-19 and so are generally susceptible to the virus. After infection occurs, some people will develop severe or critical illness, and it can cause death.

After vaccination, the vast majority of people will gain immunity. Through orderly vaccination against the COVID-19 vaccine, an immune barrier can be gradually established among the population to block the large-scale spread and prevalence of the virus.

Currently, the COVID-19 vaccine used in Wuhan city is an inactivated vaccine. According to the preliminary clinical trials of inactivated vaccines published by the country, about two weeks after the second dose of inactivated vaccines, the vaccinated population sees an improved immune effect.
