Liu Peng, deputy director of the Dongfeng Motor Corporation's Poverty Alleviation Office, was awarded the title of "National Advanced Individual in Poverty Alleviation" on Feb 25.
In order to help poor people escape poverty, Dongfeng has used its advantages in industry, talents and resources to improve the situation on the ground in aided areas, and greatly help them to enhance their self-development capabilities.
Since 2012, Dongfeng has invested a total of 179.8 million yuan ($27.67 million) in assistance funds for poverty alleviation through Party building, industrial poverty alleviation, "education + employment" poverty alleviation, and poverty alleviation through consumption in order to fully perform its assistance work.
As a member of Dongfeng's poverty alleviation team, Liu Peng has visited remote areas such as Xinjiang, Tibet, and Guangxi many times as part of his poverty alleviation work, and conducted in-depth field survey projects.
Eight counties and cities that received help from Dongfeng - including Keping county in Xinjiang, Mashan county in Guangxi, Jiangda and Gongjue counties in Tibet, and Fangxian, Xingshan and Wufeng counties and Enshi city in Hubei - have all been lifted out of poverty as scheduled.
