As the country's medium- and high-risk COVID-19 areas are cleared and passengers return after the holiday period, the passenger flow at Wuhan Tianhe International Airport is seeing a significant growth trend, according to local media reports.
On Feb 28, the airport ushered in the first small return peak since the Spring Festival holiday period. In a single day, the airport served 70,200 inbound and outbound passengers, and operated 545 flight take-offs and landings.
The passenger volume of domestic flights has basically returned to the level it was at before the COVID-19 epidemic.
During the Spring Festival travel rush from Jan 28 to March 8, Wuhan Tianhe Airport carried out strict epidemic prevention and control measures while also enhancing service quality.
While passenger traffic begins to pick up, airport cargo business has grown rapidly.
The number of cargo flights has increased significantly compared with the previous two years. There are 255 international, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan cargo flights, an increase of 347.37 percent over the Spring Festival travel rush of 2019.
Exported goods include auto parts, electronic products, optical fiber and cable products, daily consumer goods, epidemic prevention materials and e-commerce goods, as well as goods from the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta.
These goods are shipped to Ethiopia, Frankfurt, Chicago, Los Angeles and other places.
It was reported that this year Wuhan Tianhe International Airport also plans to add and resume regular cargo flights to Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, and Hong Kong.
According to data analysis, since the initial Spring Festival travel rush period of Jan 28 to Feb 28, the airport has served a total of 1.15 million passengers, transported 21,500 metric tons of cargo and mail, and operated 11,400 flights.
It is expected that in March, the flight volume and passenger flow of the airport will continue to grow even further.
