Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province, is to issue consumer coupons worth 100 million yuan ($15.51 million) to those who choose to stay in Wuhan instead of leaving for their hometowns during the upcoming Spring Festival, according to local media reports.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the municipal government has encouraged people to spend their Spring Festival holiday – which runs from Feb 11 to 17 – locally instead of leaving for their hometowns.
The consumer coupons can be received through the mobile apps Alipay, WeChat and Meituan.
The city will offer an array of useful services for those who choose to stay, such as free tickets to scenic spots, various cultural performances and consumer vouchers.
The Wuhan municipal bureau of culture and tourism will issue 2 million tickets for open scenic spots (that is, scenic spots that are mainly outdoors) for free to those with residence permits who choose to stay in Wuhan for the holiday period.
The tickets can be used in 24 scenic areas in Wuhan including Yellow Crane Tower, Wuhan Botanical Garden and Mulan Mountain.
