Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, is to cooperate with Huawei Technologies Co to boost development in the intelligent connected vehicle (ICV) industry, following a cooperation agreement signed on Jan 28, according to local media reports.

According to the agreement, the two parties will carry out technological innovation and standard research and development around the coordinated development of smart cars and smart cities in the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone, and develop a world-class joint innovation center for the smart car industry.

Huawei has actively participated in the construction of the demonstration zone. Focusing on a 5G communication network, an intelligent networked command and dispatch center, 5G cooperative vehicle infrastructure system (CVIS) equipment, and an intelligent networked car cloud service platform, Huawei fully supported the development of WHDZ to accelerate the construction of the zone.

At present, the first and second phases of the demonstration zone have been completed, and a total of 106 kilometers of CVIS open test roads with full 5G signal coverage have been built. Combined with the Beidou Navigation Satellite System, the demonstration zone has become one of the most advanced V2X vehicle-road collaborative test areas in China.

According to the cooperation agreement, Huawei will provide an open self-driving car development platform service, built in WHDZ and based on CVIS, and developed around the smart car and smart city system.

In addition, the two parties will attract more upstream and downstream enterprises to settle in the demonstration zone, expand and strengthen the auto sector's industrial chain, and promote the transformation and upgrading of the auto industry.
