Wuhan Tianhe International Airport in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, has reported growth in its cross-border e-commerce cargo volume in 2020, with 9.36 million consignments of goods completed, a year-on-year growth of 500 percent, according to local media reports.
The cross-border e-commerce goods were worth 410 million yuan ($63.30 million) in total, a year-on-year increase of 36 percent.
After the COVID-19 outbreak early in 2020, traditional foreign trade methods were affected, and new business formats such as cross-border e-commerce grew significantly.
Hubei Airports Group Aviation Logistics Co accelerated the launch of international all-cargo aircraft routes by optimizing the route network and optimizing port functions.
Through converting passenger aircraft to cargo aircraft and launching temporary charter flights, more than 30 international freight destinations have been launched or relaunched, so that the cross-border e-commerce supply radius covers major cities in and outside Hubei province, and a wide-covering, high-quality international logistics network has been formed.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), Wuhan Tianhe International Airport launched flights linking it with 152 domestic and international destinations, making it the airport with the most international and regional routes in Central China.
