Four autonomous buses have been put into trial operation in the core area of the Smart Eco-city in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), according to local media reports, marking the official opening of a new landmark in Wuhan's digital industry - the Chunsun.

The core area of the Smart Eco-city borders the Yangtze River in the east and the Shanghai-Chengdu and Beijing-Zhuhai Expressways in the south. It is also close to the Fourth Ring Road, the Outer Ring Road and the elevated Dongfeng Avenue.

The Smart Eco-city, composed of Chunsun, Smart Chedu Youth City, Chuanjiangchi Park, Chuanjiang Yungu and other projects, is the host site for the industrial transformation and upgrading of WHDZ, and is aimed at developing a digital economy innovation demonstration zone.

The new landmark of the digital industry in WHDZ, Chunsun is located in the Wuhan National New Energy and Intelligent Connected Vehicles Base. It includes five towers and two shared halls in the north and south.

From a distance, it looks like five giant spring bamboo shoots emerging from the ground; symbolizing the idea that the digital economy has sprouted like bamboo shoots in WHDZ.

Chunsun is built with BIM digital technology. Covered by a 5G communication network, the building is planned to have unmanned retail supermarkets, unmanned printing facilities, shared charging and other intelligent commercial services.

In the future, it will also attract "digital intelligence network terminal" industrial chain innovation enterprises to settle there.

Chunsun will also introduce a variety of self-driving vehicles such as unmanned sweepers, sales vehicles, and express vehicles.

At present, Chunsun has been capped, and it is expected to be completed before the Spring Festival which falls on Feb 12 this year.

In recent years, WHDZ has seized the opportunity of industrial transformation, vigorously promoted the growth of the digital industry, and accelerated the development of a digital economy innovation demonstration zone.

In 2020, WHDZ built 609 5G signal base stations. In 2021, more than 550 5G signal base stations will be built, and within two years, the zone will strive to achieve strong 5G network coverage across the entire zone.
