Wuhan transportation card interchangeable in 10 cities

A new card issued for the Year of the Ox by Wuhan Tong - one of a series of transportation cards commonly used by Wuhan citizens to take buses, subways and other means of transportation - is interchangeable in 10 cities in Hubei province, including Wuhan, Xiantao, Dazhi and Hanchuan, according to local media reports.

Travel in these cities will also be based on Wuhan Tong's technology, which can realize processes such as QR code scanning to improve the convenience of public transportation.

With the subsequent completion of the nationwide interconnection transformation project, Wuhan Tong - a Wuhan-based company mainly engaged in the launch and issuance of Wuhan transportation cards - is also set to launch a nationwide one-card with an even wider coverage, which will allow users to take buses in more cities nationwide.

On Dec 26 last year, the Wuhan-Xiantao Railway was officially opened for operation. It is the fifth intercity railway following the four intercity railways from Wuhan to Xianning, Wuhan to Huangshi, Wuhan to Huanggang, and Wuhan to Xiaogan.

On Dec 8, Hubei Highway Passenger Transport Group launched intercity bus lines in the areas surrounding Wuhan - including Wuchang to Huangshi and Hankou to Yingshan lines - adding pick-up and drop-off points along the way to make it convenient for passengers to travel nearby.

On Jan 2 this year, Wuhan launched its first intercity subway line, which can directly reach the province's Ezhou city.
