Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province, is set to further promote its intelligent connected vehicles (ICV) industry in 2021, according to local media reports.
The development zone has formulated "Several Measures to Promote the Innovation and Development of the Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICV) Industry". The 16 measures cover six primary areas, including ICV technology research and development, product testing, demonstration applications, and growth of the industrial system. They also award up to 200 million yuan ($30.98 million) to eligible companies.
Taking the opportunity of developing the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone, the WHDZ has enriched and improved the entire new energy and intelligent-connected vehicle industrial chain.
Auto manufacturer Dongfeng Motor Co is to develop China's largest fleet of autonomous vehicles in Wuhan, with the project currently underway in WHDZ.
The company will also make efforts to expand the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone, located in WHDZ, to the core urban areas of Wuhan during the three-year period from 2020 to 2022.
Within the next year, the road mileage of the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone will exceed 100 kilometers and become the country's most extensive 5G vehicle infrastructure autonomous driving demonstration zone. The zone uses full 5G coverage for collaborative vehicle-road autonomous driving tests.
The demonstration zone will build an autonomous driving application system with rich utilization scenarios, and carry out driving demonstrations and commercial operations covering autonomous buses, logistics distribution, shared travel, smart parking, automatic valet parking, clean sanitation, port freight and more.
By 2025, WHDZ will have built an autonomous driving test and demonstration base with a full range of test scenarios, and have gathered a group of intelligent-connected vehicle companies with international influence, thus establishing a complete intelligent-networked vehicle industry chain.
