From Xiaojunshan toll station to Hannan toll station on the Hanhong Expressway, vehicles passing through the electronic toll collection booths will continue to be allowed free passage, under a new agreement reached by the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) and Hubei United Development Group on Dec 28, according to WHDZ officials.
The Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone -- located in Wuhan city, capital of Central China's Hubei province -- is also known as the WHDZ, or Hannan.
WHDZ officials said the Hanhong Expressway's Xiaojunshan-Hannan section is 15 kilometers long.
In July 2009, the WHDZ signed an agreement with Hubei United Development Group. Under it, from Xiaojunshan Station to Hannan Station on the Hanhong Expressway, there was free passage for motor vehicles that did not exceed the limit.
Officials said the traffic flow of this toll-free section has increased from more than 1,000 vehicles per day at its opening to about 20,000 vehicles daily.
From September 2009 to December 2019, toll stations waived a total of 539.49 million yuan ($82.60 million).
