Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province, has made progress in the construction of its 5G infrastructure, with 25,410 5G base stations built in the city as of Dec 3, according to local media reports.

The city has effectively achieved continuous high-quality coverage within the Third Ring Road plus key coverage in remote urban areas, and also basically achieved full 5G network coverage in key industrial parks.

As a key new infrastructure supporting the digital, networked, and intelligent transformation of the economy and society, 5G has advantages including high bandwidth, low latency, and massive connectivity. It can be deeply integrated with new technologies such as the industrial internet, big data, and artificial intelligence, which greatly enriches the supporting capabilities of vertical industry applications.

During the COVID-19 epidemic period, a large number of 5G-based industry applications such as cloud supervision, online education, and telemedicine have emerged.

According to the city's economy and information technology bureau, the new goal is to basically achieve full 5G coverage in urban areas by the end of 2021 in order to meet the network facilities required for 5G application scenarios.
