Customs clearance speed was greatly enhanced at the comprehensive bonded zone in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in order to cater for this year's Nov 11 (also known as Double 11) shopping spree, according to local media reports.
In the early morning of Nov 11, a consumer from Zhongnan Road, Wuchang district placed an order for a certain Korean brand of shampoo on Tmall Global.
After receiving the order, staff members of the Cainiao bonded warehouse in the WHDZ Comprehensive Bonded Zone immediately started the declaration procedures. From the successful declaration at 00:02:09 to the release at 00:02:15, the whole process took just six seconds.
This marked the start of the first batch of cross-border e-commerce orders in Wuhan during this year's Nov 11 shopping spree.
On June 12, the WHDZ Management Committee and Cainiao Network Technology Co reached a cooperation agreement to set up a Cainiao bonded warehouse in the WHDZ Comprehensive Bonded Zone. The warehouse was created to carry the supply chain business of cross-border e-commerce platforms such as Tmall Global, Kaola.com, and Lazada in Central China.
Currently, the WHDZ Cainiao bonded warehouse mainly serves Tmall Global.
On Aug 6, the WHDZ Cainiao bonded warehouse successfully trialed its orders, and the order volume has since steadily increased.
Between Aug 7 and Nov 11, the bonded warehouse achieved more than 500,000 customs clearance orders, and the turnover exceeded 70 million yuan ($10.66 million), accounting for more than 90 percent of the total cross-border orders in the Wuhan customs area (online shopping bonded model).
