Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province, launched a direct shipping route for container vessels on Nov 3, which links the city with Xuzhou in East China's Jiangsu province, according to local media reports.

The shipping route opens up the cargo channel between the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the Grand Canal. The cooperation between Wuhan and Xuzhou – two major inland port cities – will be further advanced.

The shipping route is scheduled for two runs a week and will be gradually adjusted according to actual conditions.

According to preliminary calculations, the volume of the Xuzhou-Wuhan direct container shipping route in 2021 will be approximately 10,000 TEUs.
