The Hannan Renmin Hospital, located in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ or Hannan) in Wuhan, Hubei province, will be upgraded to become a Grade-A tertiary hospital within three to five years. According to local media reports, the upgrade will involve integrating heavy-ion basic research, talent training and clinical treatment.
The preliminary work for the hospital's upgrade has already started.
Hannan Renmin Hospital is a national secondary comprehensive hospital featuring integrated medical treatment, scientific research, education, healthcare services and rehabilitation facilities. It is a baby-friendly hospital and is listed among China’s first group of outstanding secondary hospitals.
In August 2019, WHDZ signed a cooperation agreement with Wuhan University and CAS Ion Medical Technology Co to promote the overall improvement of medical resources in Hannan.
According to the agreement, the three parties will, relying on Hannan Renmin Hospital, jointly build four major heavy-ion medical centers: a heavy-ion tumor treatment center, a heavy-ion medicine center, a heavy-ion engineering center and a digital synchronization exchange center.
At present, the heavy-ion medical center project has been included in the key project construction list of Hubei province and Wuhan city, obtained feasibility study approval and project land allocation approval. It has also successfully issued government special bonds and completed the environmental assessment process, equipment procurement and EPC bidding work.
This year, WHDZ will also invest 5.41 million yuan ($803,385) to purchase CT and ICU ward construction equipment and recruit 22 medical workers for the hospital.
