In Central China's Hubei province, Wuhan is optimizing its business environment for the development of the integrated circuit (IC) industry by launching the Several Policies for Accelerating the High-quality Development of the Integrated Circuit Industry in Wuhan, according to local media reports.

After years of development, Wuhan has gathered more than 100 IC companies with an output value of nearly 20 billion yuan ($2.98 billion). Four significant advantages are being created in the city: storage, photoelectric tech, infrared detection and Beidou navigation and positioning.

Wuhan was an early player in the IC industry and has achieved rapid development. Wuhan Xinxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Co was founded in 2006, and the company launched the first 12-inch IC production line project in Central China.

In the field of optical chips, several major independent innovations – such as the first 100G silicon optical commercial chips in China – have been developed in Wuhan.

In the field of infrared detection chips, the megapixel-level mid-wave infrared detector chips produced by Wuhan Guide Infrared Co have reached an internationally advanced level.

Also, Wuhan's IC high-end talent reserve capacity has been enhanced.

Huazhong University of Science and Technology is currently accelerating the construction of Wuhan International Microelectronics College. It now has seven microelectronics-related master's programs, five doctoral programs and two post-doctoral workstations.

Hubei University of Technology established a chip industry college, the first of its kind in Hubei province, and reached cooperation agreements with leading enterprises, including Wuhan Xinxin Semiconductor Manufacturing Co and Wuhan Eshine Technology Co.
