Hubei to add emergency rescue center, core area set up in Hannan

Central China's Hubei province is to develop a Central China Regional Emergency Rescue Center, with its main functional area set up in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ, also known as Hannan), according to local media reports.

Construction work on the project will start this year and the construction period of the project is two years. After the project is completed, it will effectively enhance the emergency rescue capabilities of Hubei province.

The Central China Regional Emergency Rescue Center is a major project included in the National Natural Disaster Prevention and Control "Nine Major Projects", and will be jointly funded and constructed by the central government, provinces and cities.

The plans include the construction of a comprehensive emergency rescue base that integrates emergency command coordination, aviation support delivery, teaching and training covering the Central China region, as well as a water rescue training base with comprehensive practical training conditions for flood disasters.

The estimated total cost of the project is 1.25 billion yuan ($184 million). Of this, 1.02 billion yuan was applied from the central budget.

The Central China Regional Emergency Rescue Center is primarily comprised of the Hannan Main Functional Area and the Honghu Water Rescue Training Base.

The Hannan Main Functional Area will be located in the General Aviation and Satellite Industrial Park in the WHDZ, which will see an emergency headquarters, a comprehensive rescue base, a material reserve base, a training and exercise base, and an aviation support base.

The Honghu Water Rescue Training Base will be located in Honghu, Jingzhou city. It will include an equipment warehouse, business complex, water level adjustment station, water rescue comprehensive training field, drill command field and other simulated actual combat training sites.
