Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, released new policies related to medical talent recruitment on Sept 18. The policies are aimed at introducing and training 100 Chedu Mingyi (Chedu famous doctors), 100 famous doctors in communities (townships) and 100 graduates in the zone within five years.
These medical talents will be rewarded for working or starting businesses, with individuals able to receive project funding of up to 2 million yuan ($294,800).
According to officials of the WHDZ health bureau, the development zone will establish the Chedu Health Talent Fund with 20 million yuan in the next five years.
Chedu Mingyi (Chedu famous doctors) refers to leading medical talents with advanced medical skills, innovative spirits and the highest medical ethics, who can effectively promote the development of regional disciplines and solve major problems in health technology.
The selected Chedu famous doctors will be awarded 500,000 yuan, 300,000 yuan, and 100,000 yuan.
The 'famous doctors in communities' (townships) can receive a subsidy of 2,000 yuan per month for three years.
Also, the WHDZ is to implement basic medical and health personnel reserve projects. These will increase the introduction of graduates from medical and health colleges, with the proportion of doctoral students not less than 10 percent. A full-time doctor of medicine will receive a subsidy of 150,000 yuan in three years with the annual subsidy being 50,000 yuan.
