The National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone, located in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ), will be further expanded this year, according to local media reports, with 78 kilometers of 5G autonomous driving open test roads set to be added.
The National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone, officially launched in September 2019, is currently the only demonstration zone for multi-scenario smart car applications in China.
A 28-kilometer test road for intelligent road network vehicle demonstrations and applications has been completed in the zone, with 33 5G base stations set up along the road. Combined with the Beidou Navigation Satellite System, the demonstration zone has become one of the most advanced V2X vehicle-road collaborative test areas in China.
So far, autonomous driving companies such as Dongfeng, Baidu, Haylion Technologies, and DeepBlue Technology have carried out test drives on the road. Response delay is only five milliseconds and positioning accuracy reaches centimeter level.
The 78-kilometer open test road, now set to be added, will cover a variety of road scenarios such as roundabouts, intersections, bridges, underpasses, and toll stations.
At present, the design plan has passed expert review.
According to the plan, the WHDZ will adopt the 5G-plus-Beidou vehicle-road collaboration network to open autonomous driving bus demonstration operation lines along the roads, and deploy application scenarios such as unmanned delivery and unmanned cleaning, thus promoting the integrated development of autonomous driving and smart cities.
Also, it will set up a Robotaxi autonomous driving fleet to explore autonomous driving commercial operations.
