Wuhan Tianhe International Airport in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, is expected to resume its first international passenger route in mid-September under the approval of the Civic Aviation Administration.

At present, many domestic and foreign airlines have applied for the resumption of international and regional passenger routes from Wuhan to places including Seoul, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Tokyo and Hong Kong.

After the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, Wuhan's 63 international and regional routes were completely suspended.

Since Wuhan lifted outbound travel restrictions in April, Wuhan Tianhe International Airport has worked to resume operations.

By the end of August, passenger routes to 73 domestic destinations had resumed, and the daily domestic passenger throughput had recovered to more than 90 percent of the same period last year.

While passenger traffic continues to increase, the airport has also opened dual channels for freight transport to Europe and the United States.

In more than four months, the airport has opened 29 international "passenger-to-cargo" routes with 600 flights, covering 29 major global cargo hub cities in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

It has resumed – and opened new – international freight routes to places such as Chicago, Manila and Osaka. The Wuhan-London-Amsterdam freight route will also begin operations soon.
