The main structure of an underground garage at Chuanjiangchi Park in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) was recently completed, and construction on the upper part of the park has officially begun, according to WHDZ’s official WeChat account.
Chuanjiangchi Park is in the core area of the development zone’s Smart Eco-city, a large-scale urban construction project. The park is one of the 15 sub-projects of the eco-city’s PPP scheme.
The landscape development project at Chuanjiangchi Park has a total investment of 359 million yuan ($51.88 million) and boasts a design area of approximately 753,000 square meters.
The plan involves green landscape engineering, paving a road and central plaza, and constructing an underground and aboveground parking lot, among the other facilities. Engineers specializing in water supply management, drainage and electrical systems have been tapped for the project.
Chuanjiangchi Park is one of Wuhan’s 100 "pocket parks" confirmed for 2020.
Pocket parks are a new concept that has evolved in recent years. They are generally created by using undeveloped urban green space, idle land and urban micro-spaces. Typically, these parks are small-scale public spaces that have practical and flexible uses.
According to officials from Wuhan’s garden and forestry bureau, pocket parks range in area from 300 to 5,000 square meters. Many of these parks are built using leftover land parcels and materials in the wake of urban land development. The site selection process is flexible and the construction period is short.
