A comprehensive improvement project for the water environment of Sanjiao Lake on Aug 3 passed the completion acceptance in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) -- in Wuhan city in Central China’s Hubei province -- according to WHDZ officials.
The lake is located in the area enclosed by North Sanjiao Road and the Third Ring Road, adjacent to Jianghan University, connecting South Taizi Lake and North Taizi Lake and connecting with the Yangtze River.
The total surface area of the lake is about 2.4 square kilometers and it holds an estimated 6.21 million cubic meters of water.
Officials said the Sanjiao Lake project -- one of the first batch of lake water quality improvement projects in the WHDZ -- drew an investment of 246 million yuan ($35.33 million).
They said it included pollution source controls and pollution interceptions, undercurrent artificial wetlands, lake ecological restoration and dredging.
After the project was completed, the water quality of Sanjiao Lake was upgraded from inferior Class V before the start of construction to Class V water, achieving the established goal for water treatment.
According to WHDZ officials, during the current year the zone will completely eliminate its inferior water bodies and realize overall improvement of its water quality.
