Three more hospitals set to settle in Wuhan development zone

Three more new hospitals are scheduled to be settle in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) -- located in Wuhan, capital city of Central China’s Hubei province -- in a major boost to its medical services, according to WHDZ officials.

They said construction work on a new oncology hospital, featuring the application of domestic heavy ion accelerators, will start in September and construction will take three years.

On completion, it will be the only hospital in Central China and only the fourth hospital in China to use heavy ion radiotherapy to treat tumors.

In addition, Tongji Hospital is to set up a rehabilitation medical center in the WHDZ, with construction work starting in 2021.

The rehabilitation medical center, covering an area of 90,000 square meters, will boast 1,000 beds and cost 2.68 billion yuan ($385 million).

The planned rehabilitation medical center will include an International Rehabilitation Medical Center, a Rehabilitation Training Center, Rehabilitation Equipment Research Center and a Rehabilitation Equipment Manufacturing Industrial Park.

Finally, the Wuhan Children’s Hospital West Campus is expected to complete construction in September 2022 in the WHDZ.

Construction work on the project resumed in April after the improvement in novel coronavirus conditions and is being carried out in accordance with the standards of Grade 3, Class A hospitals.
