Wuhan Jingkai Foreign Language School -- in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan city in Central China's Hubei province -- is to become the first school in the province to boast 5G coverage, after a school campus relocation and upgrade which began on July 31, according to WHDZ officials.

The project, being undertaken by Wuhan Chedu Real Estate Co, will relocate the school to the original site of the WHDZ No 2 Middle School.

Officials said the campus will adopt a European design style with modern elements and the total area covers about 182 mu, or 12.13 hectares. The project will involve construction of 13 new and rebuilt sub-projects.

Construction work will take 305 days and the revamped school is scheduled to open its doors in September 2021.

Officials said that what marked this school from conventional schools, was that from the beginning, the project has considered integrating the entire information system into one platform to ensure the smoothness of information sharing.

There will also be more applications for distance teaching and a 5G digital platform for the school. Officials said at the start of the design process, relevant system pipelines were embedded and data transmission was also considered for design optimization.

Officials said the advantages of 5G are mainly reflected in the rapid information transmissions, for the campus intelligent management system and other systems. They said the campus intelligence system, based on 5G technology, will be much faster and more convenient to use.

The school will have elementary school, junior high school, high school and an international department and it will enroll 4,000 students on completion.
