Dongfeng Amperex (Wuhan) Battery System Co is to partner up  with Hongtai Faurecia Composite (Wuhan) Co -- both based at the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan city, in Central China's Hubei province -- to develop and produce composite materials for electric car battery cases following an agreement signed on July 14, according WHDZ officials.

Dongfeng Amperex is an important unit in auto maker Dongfeng's shift from traditional vehicles to new generation vehicles that are lightweight, electrified, intelligent, networked and shared.

WHDZ officials said the new initiative is also an important step for Dongfeng to accelerate the industrialization of new energy vehicle core resources.

After two years of development, Dongfeng Amperex now has mature project development experience and a completely new product development response system, officials said.

Promising prospects for the future have created a solid foundation for better cooperation between the two parties, they added.

According to Xia Shixiong, general manager of Hongtai Faurecia Composite (Wuhan) Co, the two companies have long been cooperation partners.

Xia said they have achieved mass supply of battery housing for new energy vehicles such the Dongdeng Venucia D60EV and T60EV models and enjoy the exclusive supplier status in the SMC composite battery housing business.

Xia added that he hoped that through the strategic agreement, the two parties would deepen their existing relationship to give play to their respective comparative advantages -- and jointly strengthen and improve the Dongfeng new energy battery industry production and supply chain.

Officials said it is hoped Hongtai Faurecia Composite will continue to improve its competitiveness in terms of technology research and development, quality, delivery and cost and do a great job in localizing supplies and services.
