Following heavy downpours, the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) -- in Wuhan city in Central China’s Hubei province -- on July 6 upgraded its emergency response level for flood control to Grade II from Grade III, the second-highest on the four-tier system.

According to WHDZ officials, heavy rain has been pounding the development zone over the past two days, leaving many sections of road waterlogged, with water levels exceeding the warning line in some places.

To strengthen its flood prevention and control, the WHDZ has deployed 390 employees to inspect the embankments.

Staff members are being placed on duty at the 48 sluice gates and at four dangerous sections, officials added.
