Wuhan city -- located in Central China’s Hubei province -- was recently ranked sixth among China’s cities in terms of its business environment.

That’s according to a report on China's urban business environment index jointly released by the WANB Institute, the China Strategic Culture Promotion Association, the China Chain Store & Franchise Association, the Economic Media Association of China and the YICAI Research Institute.

The top 10 cities in the business environment index are Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Wuhan, Nanjing, Tianjin, Chengdu and Suzhou.

According to the report, the market environment and the rule of law environment make the greatest contribution to a city’s economic development, followed by its environment for innovation.

The compilers of the report said that targeted policies can help companies overcome challenges in the market environment.

Wuhan ranked seventh in terms of the market environment index and sixth in the innovation environment index.

The city’s officials said that this year Wuhan has continued to optimize its business environment.

Last month, Wuhan released a paper called Opinions on Further Optimizing the Business Environment. This is about, among other things, improving the capacity and efficiency of government services.
