Auto manufacturer Dongfeng Motor Co -- based in Wuhan city in Central China’s Hubei province -- recently signed a landmark agreement involving new energy vehicles, or NEVs, with Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited Company (CATL), the largest supplier of battery systems in China, company executives said.
They said Dongfeng and CATL signed a framework agreement on deepening strategic cooperation on June 16, aimed at promoting the construction and improvement of China's NEV industrial ecosystem.
According to Li Shaozhu, general manager of Dongfeng Motor Co, in recent years, the two companies have joined hands to establish a strategic cooperative relationship.
This involved the establishment of a joint venture company -- to the development, production and sales of power battery systems – as well as the joint development of Dongfeng's independent new energy vehicle battery systems.
Li said the cooperation field had continued to expand and has achieved tremendous results.
He said that during the two companies’ five-year partnership, they had successively launched a number of products, which were being widely used in Dongfeng's own brand NEVs such as the AEOLUS and VENUCIA models.
They were bringing new solutions to the market and were well received by consumers, Li added.
Industry experts said Dongfeng and CATL have a good foundation for strategic cooperation.
According to the companies, both parties will consolidate and expand their joint ventures and joint development.
