The Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) -- in Wuhan city in China’s Central Hubei province -- has been making great efforts to ensure the safety of key projects and important infrastructure during the flood season, according to WHDZ officials.
They said that over the past two years, the zone has invested more than 3 billion yuan ($422 million), continuously increased the construction of flood control and drainage facilities and actively made various defense preparations.
Since February this year, the zone has set up an emergency rescue team of 1,177 people from fields including water affairs, medical care, public security, power supplies and communications.
In accordance with the requirements for flood prevention, sufficient emergency materials for flood control and drought resistance have been stored in the main embankments of the Yangtze River, the Tongshun embankments, and in the Dongjing embankments.
The zone has completed plans for drainage, epidemic prevention, power supplies and the safe operations of the port and dock, dilapidated buildings and wading projects.
