Three factories owned by Dongfeng Honda -- a leading auto manufacturer headquartered in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) -- have resumed work and production, according to the official WeChat account of the WHDZ.
The automobile industry is one of the pillar industries of Wuhan city in Central China’s Hubei province, and plays an important role in the domestic and global supply chains.
Dongfeng Honda, for its part, is a leading company in the sector in Hubei, with three factories locating in Wuhan. Last year, the company produced 792,000 vehicles with an output value of 135 billion yuan ($19.09 billion), making it the largest single manufacturer in the province.
At present, with Dongfeng leading the way, Wuhan city’s auto makers are streaming back to both work and production -- as well as the upstream and downstream enterprises engaged in parts and components manufacturing.
Under normal circumstances, Dongfeng Honda's daily output can reach more than 3,000 units, taking its daily revenue to about 450 million yuan, with taxes payable of 40-50 million yuan.
However, due to the outbreak, so far in March only a total of 1,000 units have been produced per day on average.
According to company officials, it is estimated that by the end of March, the number can be increased to six or seven thousand.
Dongfeng Honda has more than 500 first-tier suppliers in China, of which more than 150 are in Wuhan. At present, all these enterprises have got the green light to return to work and production, official said.
