Guizhou medical team leaves WHDZ cabin hospital

Updated: 2020-03-25

A Guizhou medical team -- which was responsible for the treatment of patients staying in the Wuhan Sports Center cabin hospital -- left the facility on March 17 heading for Guizhou, according to the official WeChat account of Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone, or WHDZ.

The medical team consisted of 42 medical workers from the emergency, critical care, respiratory, infection, imaging and testing departments of the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University.

The Wuhan Sports Center in the WHDZ -- located in Wuhan city in Central China's Hubei province -- converted its main gymnasium and badminton training hall into two pop-up hospitals, to treat infected patients suffering from mild symptoms of the novel coronavirus.

WHDZ officials said the facility received its first patients on Feb 12.

A team of coronavirus pneumonia experts from China and the World Health Organization inspected the hospital on Feb 23, they added.

The experts investigated the epidemic prevention and control work and had in-depth discussions with the medical workers at the hospital, speaking highly of their professionalism and dedication.

The pop-up hospital was closed on March 8. Officials said that from its opening on Feb 12, the sports center hospital admitted 1,056 patients.

The hospital reported zero deaths from patients. No medical staff members were infected and no cured patients showed symptoms of reinfection.
