Wuhan Kaijun Clothing Group in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in China's Central Hubei province has turned is hand to producing medical supplies in an effort to help with novel coronavirus pneumonia prevention and control, according to local media reports.
The WHDZ-based company owns and operates its own garment industry park -- Kaijun Garment Industrial Park. The company has focused on the industry for many years and serves some world-renowned fast fashion apparel brands.
WHDZ officials said the company has strong apparel production, design and research and development capabilities -- and is a supply chain management group combining apparel export production and multi-brand operations.
Since the outbreak of the epidemic, it has donated 3,000 down jackets worth 500,000 yuan ($72,080) and funds totaling 300,000 yuan to the WHDZ.
When it was learned that frontline workers needed isolation clothing, the company said that its subsidiaries had production lines that could produce isolation clothing.
The administrative examination and approval bureau of WHDZ started online and offline approval procedures to help the company get the license and first-class medical device production filing in the shortest possible time.
On Feb 21, the business license was issued and on Feb 23, the first-class medical device registration certification was completed.
Five days later, the company's employees who had stayed in Wuhan city started production of the isolation gowns.
Zone officials said that on March 2, more than 10 WHDZ-based companies, including Wuhan Chedu Co, received the first batch of 1,250 isolation gowns produced by Wuhan Kaijun Group.
