A total of eight patients with the novel coronavirus pneumonia have been cured and were discharged from the Wuhan Sports Center cabin hospitals on Feb 18 -- marking the first batch of patients discharged from the cabin hospitals -- according to the official WeChat account of the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ).

The Wuhan Sports Center in the WHDZ -- located in Wuhan city in Central China's Hubei province, which is the epicenter of the outbreak -- has converted its main gymnasium and badminton training hall into two mobile cabin hospitals, to treat infected patients suffering from mild symptoms of the virus.

If a patient's condition worsens, he or she is then transferred to the Wuhan Union Hospital (West Campus).

The cabin hospitals have 1,100 beds, with 600 beds placed in the main gymnasium and 500 in the badminton training hall.

The cabin hospitals received their first patients on Feb 12. The 700 medical workers from hospitals in the WHDZ -- and from Anhui, Guizhou and Jiangsu provinces -- provided diagnosis and treatment for the patients, strictly following the diagnosis and treatment plan for the coronavirus.

Officials said the management and operations team of the cabin hospitals provided logistics and security support.

After six days of treatment, eight patients had negative results for nucleic acid tests that were performed twice -- and became the first batch of discharged patients.
