A total of eight nursing institutions for the aged in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (also known as WHDZ) started close-off management on Jan 21, in response to the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei province, according to the official WeChat account of the WHDZ.

Zone officials said the institutions strengthened their personnel access control and implemented registration systems for people entering and leaving the institutions, in order to cut off the virus transmission path.

Officials added that as of Feb 13, all elderly care homes in the WHDZ were operating normally and no confirmed cases or suspected cases of the novel coronavirus pneumonia were found among the 299 senior residents staying in the institutions.

During the closed-off management period, elderly care institutions are not accepting visitors and relatives.

Goods that are to be delivered to the elderly should be registered for transfer in designated areas, after ensuring that they do not carry the virus.

If the elderly and staff members have symptoms of the infection or fever, they should be reported to the epidemic prevention department and will be quarantined or transferred to hospitals for treatment.
