The soccer world’s 2021 FIFA Club World Cup is to open at the Wuhan Sports Center located in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, capital city of Central China’s Hubei province, according to WHDZ officials on Jan 8.
Wuhan -- along with Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenyang, Ji'nan, Hangzhou, and Dalian -- are the eight cities selected to host the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup.
Serving as the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 7th CISM World Military Games held in October, 2019, the Wuhan Sports Center was built in 2002.
Officials said it can hold an audience of up to 60,000.
It is also the venue for top international and domestic events such as FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the Badminton Asia Championships and the China Automobile and Motorcycle Sports Festival.
The sports center was selected as one of the Wuhan Industry Landmarks recently.
The Club World Cup is a soccer competition organized every four years. It brings together the champion clubs of each intercontinental cup, but also the champion club of the organizing country.
In October, 2019, FIFA announced in Shanghai that the 2021 event would be held between June and July in China.
Organizers said it will be the first session featuring 24 teams.
