Wuhan has taken first place among sub-provincial cities in China in tourist numbers over the past five years, according to the China Tourism Industry Development Report 2019, local officials said.
The findings were released by the China Tourism Academy Wuhan Branch on Dec 22, they added.
The report released the evaluation in terms of comprehensive tourism competitiveness for 15 sub-provincial cities in China.
Among the three major sub-criteria for comprehensive competitiveness, Wuhan's real competitiveness and development environment competitiveness ranked in the top places, while its potential competitiveness performance still needs to be improved, officials said.
According to the report, among the 15 sub-provincial cities, Wuhan and Chengdu received over 200 million tourists last year.
The China Tourism Academy Wuhan Branch has been publishing annual research reports annually for eighth consecutive years, starting in 2012.
