Wuhan, capital city of Central China’s Hubei province, has been ranked third among Chinese cities and municipalities for its digital development, according to the 2019 City Digital Development Index Report released by the CSUS National Smart City Joint Lab on Dec 17.
Comprehensive scores were given to cities and municipalities across the country for four first-level indicators and 20 sub-indicators -- such as the digital environment, digital government affairs, digital life and the digital ecology.
The top 10 places are Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, Shanghai, Wuhan in Hubei province, Shenzhen in Guangdong province, Beijing, Zhengzhou in Henan province, Guangzhou in Guangdong province, Nanjing in Jiangsu province, Ningbo in Zhejiang province and Qingdao in Shandong province.
According to statistics analyzed by CSUS, Wuhan ranks among the top three in the human-centered urban digital development indices -- such as transportation, online social security services, online living payment, online immigration services and online education services.
Wuhan's digital industry level index also ranks among the top three domestically.
Wuhan city ranks among the top 10 in other indices such as the E-government financial budget, public information resource transaction levels, inclusive digital finance, online provident fund service levels and digital innovation capabilities.
Local officials said that with the digital development of Wuhan, residents enjoy more convenience in their daily lives.
In recent years, more services have been introduced and can be accessed online including living expenses, electronic certificates, social security, provident funds and transportation -- which save time for residents as well as sparing them the trouble of traveling.
In terms of daily traveling, Wuhan's buses, shared bicycles and internet-linked cars have already been connected to Alipay.
