A media delegation toured the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone on Nov 14 -- to learn about the rapid development of the city’s auto industry, according to local media reports.
The test and demonstration zone is located in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone -- also known as WHDZ -- in the capital city of central Hubei province.
It is the first intelligent network-connected vehicle demonstration area in China, based on full coverage by the 5G communications technology V2X vehicle road coordination system.
A new 28-kilometer test road for intelligent road network vehicle demonstrations and applications has been completed in the test and demonstration zone.
Various auto-driving configurations for testing different types of vehicles -- such as buses, sanitation vehicles, taxis and logistics vehicles -- have been added.
The WHDZ is becoming one of Wuhan’s most dynamic regions with the regional GDP hitting 166 billion yuan ($23.3 billion) in 2018. The figure was close to the GDP of the country of Iceland.
With the recent hosting of the 7th CISM Military World Games in Wuhan, WHDZ’s prestige has been further enhanced.
Officials said that now the WHDZ is making every effort to promote its industrial transformation and upgrade -- and to develop the new energy and intelligent networked vehicle sector, together with other high-tech industries.
They added that the WHDZ is working to explore China’s solution for autonomous driving, promoting China’s next-generation automobile industry to be at the forefront of the world.
It has built a demonstration test ecosystem for self-driving vehicles with multi-brands, different models and different agents working in coexistence for different companies and different auto marques.
