Dynamic Wuhan moves to promote low-carbon lifestyle

Wuhan, capital city of Central China’s Hubei province, is to establish a sustainable and reproducible low-carbon life guidance system to advocate low-carbon life.

That’s according to the 2019 Climate and Health Communications Seminar, which was held at South-Central University for Nationalities on Nov 3.

The guidance system will include the introduction of macroeconomic policies, the use of an individual voluntary carbon emissions reduction methodology algorithm, as well as the establishment of a national unified carbon credits platform.

According to reports, in order to help create zero carbon conditions during the 7th CISM Military World Games staged there last month, Wuhan initiated a carbon neutral initiative.

The city quantified the emissions reduction contribution of citizens' green and low-carbon behavior to offset the carbon emissions generated by the Military World Games and achieve the goal of “carbon neutrality”.

According to big data, as of Oct 27, when the closing ceremony of the games was held, the cumulative CO2 emission reductions were 100.23 tons.

This successfully neutralized the carbon dioxide emissions generated by the opening and closing ceremonies of the competition and the city's traffic.
