It was all flounces, frills and femininity as the 2019 Wuhan Fashion Week opened in Wuhan in central Hubei province on Nov 5 -- boosting Wuhan’s profile as the City of Design, according to the Changjiang Daily.
The one-week event, hosted by the Wuhan municipal government, has as its theme “vitality”, the organizers said. It boasts some 40 activities including exhibitions, summit forums and fashion shows.
In the Chinese fashion industry, Wuhan’s textile and garments industry has played an important role in the whole industry regardless of brand.
Starting in 2012, Wuhan Fashion Week is an annual event held in October, November or December. It is now in its eight season.
According to the fashion week organizers, the event is expected to further integrate exhibitions, summits and trade resources, and promote the growth of Wuhan's fashion industry.
Organizers said that one of the highlights of this year is the integration of Chinese design elements.
Designer Laurence Xu, inspired by the Chinese folklores of the 12 goddesses of the flowers, designed a series of high fashion dresses. These seek to integrate Chinese elements with modernity, giving an interpretation of Chinese history and culture.
