A total of 36 Dongfeng intelligent networked vehicles were on display at Dongfeng’s smart vehicle achievement exhibition which was held on Oct 15 -- demonstrating various applications scenarios including intelligent traveling, logistics and distribution.
The display was staged in the National Intelligent Networked Automotive (Wuhan) Test and Demonstration Zone, which was located in Junshan Street in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone – commonly known as the WHDZ.
Officials said it is the only demonstration zone for multi-scenario smart car applications.
The event showcased the Dongfeng Winding-VAN mobile travel service platform, Dongfeng RoboTaxi, EX1 (E-Tech) and other forward-looking products that have reached the L4 remote driving level.
Level 4 autonomy is where a vehicle is fully autonomous, but only in certain conditions. The driver does not need to be fully in control during travel but must take over suddenly when the vehicle is no longer able to handle a situation.
Officials said the exhibition also showcased new achievements including the Dongfeng Fengshen Yixuan L3, with network-assisted intelligent assisted driving and intelligent parking for personal travel.
Experts say Level 3 represents a milestone in autonomous driving because that is when features are active that can take over the monitoring tasks, together with the driving tasks, enabling drivers to take their “eyes-off” the road.
In addition, the Dongfeng Smart Car Cloud Control System went on display.
In terms of smart logistics, Dongfeng demonstrated automatic driving products and launched the L3+ pure electric self-driving sanitation vehicle developed by Dongfeng Trucks.
Officials said the cutting-edge products and solutions developed by Dongfeng will be put into trial operation during the 7th CISM Military World Games which will run in Wuhan on Oct 18-27.
