A women’s volleyball competition – testing the facilities for the upcoming 2019 Military World Games -- was held at the Wuhan Sports Center in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone in the capital of Central China's Hubei province, on Oct 6.
A total of 17 athletes and 13 judges participated in the one-day test, which ran in the WHDZ strictly in accordance with international standards.
According to the organizers, the venue for women’s volleyball games covers 28,000 square meters and the auditorium can seat more than 13,000 spectators.
It just hosted the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in September.
The infrastructure at the venue has been upgraded extensively, including its internet communications system, installation of a news services system and an improved security monitoring system.
New functional areas, such as a press conference hall and a television broadcasting room, were built.
Officials said the competition served as preparatory event for the upcoming 7th Military World Games, which will begin on Oct 18 in the WHDZ.
The event tested the ability of the venue -- including its infrastructure, equipment, services, security, information technology, publicity and organizing capabilities -- to host an international volleyball competition.
