The third week of September was designated as National Putonghua Week in 1998. Its purpose is to raise awareness of Putonghua (standard Chinese) and standard Chinese characters.
This year’s event was themed around the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. A wide range of activities, including a Putonghua competition and a cartoon exhibition, will be held in the zone.
In recent years, the WHDZ government has been taking measures to promote the use of Putonghua through training sessions, examinations, and competitions.
