An evaluation conference on new types of rice was held in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on Sept 12.
A panel of experts visited rice fields in the Xiangkou Seed and Breeding Industrial Town and evaluated 49 new types of rice.
“Data has been collected on the rice at every stage of growth,” said an official at the local agricultural technology promotion center.
The goal of the evaluation is to select the species that best suit Wuhan’s environment, weather, growing techniques, agricultural structure, and market demand, he added.
The industrial town covers an area of about five square kilometers and houses a wide range of businesses focusing on seeds, breeding, scientific and technological research, exhibitions, tourism, and education.
