The Wuhan session of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup concluded at the Wuhan Sports Center in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) on Sept 8.
In Group J, Italy overturned a 20-point deficit at half time and emerged victorious against Puerto Rico with a score of 94-89, while Serbia's aggressive offense failed to break Spain’s strong defense and lost 69-81.
The event ran from Aug 31 to Sept 8. Eight teams competed in 10 games, attracting 70,000 people from China and abroad.
A total of 120 journalists from domestic and foreign media covered the events through newspaper, television and online live broadcasting, showcasing WHDZ’s capability in hosting sports events.
The WHDZ’s sports industry has seen a boom in recent years. The output value of the “sports+ tourism” sectors hit 10 billion yuan ($1.41 billion) last year, and the growth rate has remained above 10 percent for the past three years.
