A cargo train loaded with 260 cars from Wuhan, capital of Central China’s Hubei province, arrived in Liuzhou, South China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on Sept 8.
It was the first direct cargo route between the two cities and follows the introduction of new routes between Wuhan and Hangzhou in East China’s Zhejiang province on May 15 and Wuhan and Taiyuan in North China’s Shanxi province on June 22.
Road and railway transport have been seamlessly integrated, an official said. The cars were directly transported from the manufacturing plant in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) to the Tuoluokou Cargo Station, where they boarded the train to Liuzhou.
A total of 75,000 cars from Wuhan had been transported to Hainan province, Fuzhou, Guiyang, Kunming, Tianjing, Baoding, Jinan, Urumqi, Lanzhou, and Shenyang by Aug 6, officials said.
The shipment included cars produced by Dongfeng Motors, based in the WHDZ, SAIC Motor cars from Shanghai, and Chang’an cars from Chongqing, which were transported by boat or train to Wuhan and then transported by train to other parts of the country.
According to employees at the Wuhan branch of China Railway Special Cargo Logistics Co, the company has taken advantage of Wuhan’s railway network to better serve regional carmakers.
The new route to Liuzhou is expected to help Dongfeng Honda expand the local market and better satisfy the demands of local consumers.
