The Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) reported steady economic growth for the first half of 2019, according to information released at the zone’s economic work meeting on July 29.

Although the domestic car industry has been declining for 12 consecutive months in terms of production and sales, the zone, with automobiles as its pillar industry,  has achieved 6-percent growth in regional gross production.

According to local authorities, leading companies such as Dongfeng Honda Geely and Midea have contributed to economic growth in the zone.

Several large-scale completely built-up (CBU) vehicle projects are now underway, accelerating the development of the local manufacturing industry.

Dongfeng Chuxing, a ride-hailing platform that has received 10 billion yuan ($1.42 billion) in investment, and a financing and car leasing business that has received 3 billion yuan in investment from Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile Company, now operate in the zone, completing the local car industrial chain.
