The lotus festival and the rural tourism festival kicked off at the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone in Wuhan, capital of Central China's Hubei province, on July 5.
The opening ceremony was held at the zone's Chuxiang Ecological Garden, where some 33.33 hectares of lotus flowers are blooming.
During the opening ceremony, an art performance themed on lotus flowers was staged, such as poetry recitation, singings, and guzheng (Chinese zither) performance.
In addition, calligraphy and painting pieces themed on lotus flowers and food made of materials from lotus ponds were also showcased during the event.
The event aimed to allow more people to learn about lotus culture, and promote the rural tourism sector in the zone, said the organizers.
