AI science park in WHDZ expected to begin operating this year

Updated: 2019-06-27

The artificial intelligence (AI) science park project in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (WHDZ) in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, is expected to begin operating by the end of this year, according to local authorities.

Peng Hao, director of the administrative committee of the zone, examined construction work on the project on June 17 to help deal with ongoing issues.

The park covers an area of 201 mu (13.4 hectares) and received 2 billion yuan ($290.8 million) in investment. It will replace the old Zhuanyang Street private technology industrial park, which is now over 20 years old.

The extended plant project is expected to begin operating at the end of this year, while the newly-built parts are expected to be completed before June 2020.

Construction work on two plants is nearly completed, while fitting work is still underway.

After its completion, the park will work to attract high-tech AI companies from all over the world. It will offer incubation services and help businesses commercialize their research achievements.

Leading AI companies such as Baidu and Tencent will establish offices in the park.
