The Wuhan Sports Center has a total investment of 1.39 billion yuan (excluding the cost of land use) and three main complexes -- a stadium, a gymnasium and a natatorium (a building containing a swimming pool).
Begun in 1998, the stadium was completed in August 2002. It totals 85,000 square meters and has 56,000 seats.
The construction of the gymnasium started in 2004, and was finished in April 2007. It measures 53,000 square meters and has 13,000 seats.
Occupying 35,000 square meters, the natatorium was built from 2006 to July 2007. It holds 3,500 people.
With the above facilities, the sports center not only meets the demand for international/national high-level single event competitions such as football and basketball and diving, but also qualifies as a venue for various artistic performances and business exhibitions.
Over the past decade, the Wuhan Sports Center has fully satisfied the requirements of high-level competitive sports events and has formed an operational model featuring gradual step-by-step development.
